Sheila G. Lyons, Special Agent in Charge of the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration Chicago Field Division, announced that Jamire Holingshed, 26, Detroit, and Robert Lewis, 24, Detroit, have been charged with manufacture-delivery of more than 900 grams of fentanyl by the Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Judge Maryam Ahmad set bail for each defendant at $1,555,500.

A DEA investigation uncovered intelligence that Holingshed and Lewis, both of whom had previously traveled from Los Angeles to Chicago in possession of illicit narcotics, were planning on flying the same route on May 2.

On May 2, several DEA Chicago Division Task Force Officers intercepted luggage belonging to Holingshed and Lewis at Chicago Midway International Airport on the evening. Additional law enforcement personnel intercepted Lewis and Holingshed upon arrival at the airport baggage claim area. Both Holingshed and Lewis granted a consensual search of their luggage.

Both defendants had checked one suitcase, each of which contained 10 kilograms of fentanyl.

The case was investigated by the DEA Chicago Field Division, with substantial assistance from the Chicago Police Department, Bartlett Police Department, Amtrak Police, and the Cook County Sheriff’s Office.

The public is reminded that an indictment contains only a charge and is not evidence of guilt. The defendant is presumed innocent and is entitled to a fair trial at which the government has the burden of proving guilt beyond a reasonable doubt.
