ST. LOUIS - U.S. District Judge John A. Ross on Thursday sentenced a St. Louis man who shot at and beat his paramour to 15 years in prison for drug and gun crimes.
On Feb. 23, 2020, Duane McCoy beat the woman, then fired shots at her after she was able to escape her home. Police responding to reports of a man pointing the two guns that he was carrying at people found McCoy in the 5200 block of Euclid Avenue and arrested him. Officers found $2,311, a stolen Glock.45-caliber pistol and a Smith & Wesson 9mm pistol, as well as 14.6 grams of fentanyl and 4.73 grams of methamphetamine.
McCoy, 39, pleaded guilty in March to three counts: possession with intent to distribute methamphetamine and fentanyl and being a felon in possession of a firearm. Due to his prior convictions, McCoy was deemed a “career offender," meaning he was subject to a longer prison term.
The case was investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Jennifer Szczucinski prosecuted the case.
